The show title is appropriate
because it has been an adventure. Most of us have spent the better
part of the past year preparing for this show. We have several new
members showing their work in public for the first time. And there is
one piece (it’s a surprise!) that we weren’t sure could physically be
done. But we did it and we want to show it off. We guarantee nothing
like it has been seen in Wilson previously. Most likely nothing of
the kind has been seen in North Carolina before. And it’s gorgeous,
if we say so ourselves.
We also have lots of Christmas
ornaments. During last year’s raffle, we got many requests from folks
wanting to buy individual ornaments. So this year we have a new crop
of hand-made wooden ornaments available individually.
And let’s not forget all the other
one-of-a-kind hand-made items perfect for holiday giving. Nature has
been an obvious influence this year. If you like birds or fish, you
can see a fine selection, in all price ranges. There will be items
from folk art to highly stylized sculptural work. If you need to
decorate a beach house or mountain cabin, or just appreciate beautiful
wood, this show is a must-see!
The Wilson Woodcarvers began in
1995. We have been lucky to have the Arts Council of Wilson host our
meetings – now every Tuesday night at 7:00PM on the 3rd
floor of the ACW building. Our members share an interest in
woodworking and wish to promote woodcarving specifically. We have
much to offer those wanting to learn to carve wood, and sometimes, we
actually have fun doing it. We maintain a library of books and CD’s
and we have an excellent sharpening machine, all for members’ use’.
We also offer modest tuition credit and mileage reimbursement for some
carving classes and travel to shows. We also enjoy some discounts on
supplies, tools, etc. with retail outlets catering to woodworkers. We
participate actively with a variety of local festivals. And we always
welcome new members.
Our show opening on September 18
will be our second exhibition on the Boykin Gallery and we think. We
are very pleased that the Arts Council allows us this opportunity and
we are very proud that The WONC Gallery (Woodworkers of North
Carolina), In Zebulon, NC, has the confidence in us to host this
event.
Please stop in anytime during
gallery hours until November 1.
