These were about the only carvings done in those years. We were living in Memphis and I had responsibility for a large part of the country and traveled widely so when I was at home I spent it with my familyor my wife, and I played golf. The carving was done during the two week vacation we took back in Virginia each year visiting our parents; sitting in the yard under a shade tree or on the porch swing. Back... |

The Ark was carved in the 1990's. Giraffe is about 7" long and the people about 3" tall. The boat is carved from an Oak log that was taken from a log house in Hershey, Pa. A friend who lives in the house cut an archway in the house to add a room. The house was over 250 years old. I told him and he cut me three pieces and put them in my car. I had enough to make three Arks, which I did. The animals are all made of Walnut wood, the snakes are Walnut sapwood. The house deck and ramp are Oak wood. The strips on the ramp are walnut wood and the roof is made from a Pine cone. Back... |
